PARTICIPANTS WRITING & RECORDING LYRICS

WHAT WE DO

THREAD Songwriting & Recording programs transform individual and collective trauma into original songs and professionally produced recordings.

To address and help alleviate the rising levels of systemic and event based trauma , our team of Board Certified Arts Therapists, Teaching Artists, Music Producers, Social Workers, Arts Technology Specialists, and Music Industry Professionals redefined the innovative music education programming we implemented for more than 20 years as Music Ascension.

THREAD facilitates workshops, projects, Arts residencies and group work to guide adults, as well as young people ages 14 and up, offering a creative and therapeutic process to open powerful channels for expression, healing and connection.

The original lyrics and music created by THREAD participants are shared as audio recordings and lyric videos, as well as in curated virtual and live performance events that inspire and empower individuals and communities.

THREAD is a 501(c)(3) non-profit therapeutic arts organization whose mission is to use creative expression as an avenue to cultivate conversation around mental health, helping to destigmatize and dismantle barriers to healing and connection.

WE UTILIZE FACILITATION TEAMS COMPRISED OF A MASTER TEACHING ARTIST AND A LICENSED MUSIC THERAPIST

HOW WE DO IT

We pair a master teaching artist with a licensed music therapist to create a safe space for participants to develop trust and connection through creative activities and collaborative games. As we begin to explore the common threads of our shared experiences, we guide participants through a process that translates feelings into lyrics, sounds, rhythm and rhyme. As the structure of an original song emerges, participants contribute to a collaborative recording process either virtually or in-person, resulting in a fully produced work of art, an mp4, that they take with them. This creative and therapeutic process is cathartic and healing, helping participants transform difficult experiences into a useful tool to return to for inspiration and support. These songs are also meant to be shared in wider communities, benefiting others who listen, expanding circles of connection and cultivating conversation around mental health and trauma.

THERAPEUTIC STUDY

Our facilitation team works with our partners to identify measurable goals for the program. We design and implement a series of surveys throughout the program to assess the progress of each participant as well as the overall group.

Highlighted program benefits to participants include the following:

  • Reduced anxiety

Art is not always about pretty things. Its about who we are, what happened to us and how our lives are affected.
